After 20 years of practicing Western Esotericism, I got to a point in which I was not satisfied with my mind. My thoughts were all scattered around, and I felt I was not in charge of what was going on inside my brain.
Since Buddhists have been working on developing a clear mind for thousands of years, I approached a local group of Tibetan Buddhism to learn how to train my mind. There, I got in contact with the three paths of Tibetan Buddhism: Hinayana, Mahayana and Vajrayana.

Although some Buddhist schools focus on one of the first two paths, Tibetan Buddhism is a left-hand Buddhist path. That means they use any available means to achieve their goal, enlightenment, so they don’t choose one path over another. They have developed a process using the three of them.
The first path is the Hinayana, the smaller vehicle. Basically, it is a path of meditation that helps you “let go”.
The Hinayana practice can help you move on because you don’t get attached to your own experiences, emotions, or thoughts.
The Buddhist concept of “mind” differs from our Western vision. The mind includes our thoughts, emotions, feelings, but in a wider meaning, it is the source of everything that is created. Through the inner world, we can access to the true nature of the mind, just focusing on our personal minds.
I have found this practice very useful, and these are the five reasons why:
Some accomplished occultists were influenced by Buddhism. Aleister Crowley wrote a book on the subject and took many of its ideas into his work, and Nema Andahadna was an initiate of Adi Nath Tantra.
Establishing a meditation routine can help you with an esoteric routine. If you have difficulties to meditate everyday, you can use an app that will help you go into meditation and stick to a daily practice.
Going into a deep meditation state, you are more likely to go through the veil that separates our daily consciousness from a wider perception that connects us to a higher reality and the gods.
Visualization techniques can create a lot of confusion when you cannot distinguish what comes from your own wishes and the genuine messages you receive from the other side. Knowing who you are can help you avoid those tricks.
Most occultists go through powerful experiences that can be difficult to process. The Hinayana practice can help you move on because you don’t get attached to your own experiences, emotions, or thoughts.
